This digital platform is positioned as the third most used social network by Peruvians, with 51% having accessed it in the last 30 days.

60% of Peruvians say they have the need to check social networks every day and 44% feel lost without their smartphone.

Instagram, the social network best known for its design to share digital photos and videos, turns 12 years old. Therefore, as part of its anniversary, Kantar IBOPE Media revealed in its latest Target Group Index (TGI) study, that it is the digital platform preferred by 36% of Peruvians who were born from 1997 onwards and who today are popularly known as centennials. In addition, it is positioned as the third most used social network, as 51% accessed it in the last 30 days.

The study also highlights that Instagram was used by 34% of millennials; that is, among men and women born between 1981 and 1996. On the other hand, 50% of users who accessed the platform were housewives.

Instagram is one of the social networks that stands out for its innovation in formats and tools for the creation of virtual communities. Likewise, due to its popularity, it has positioned itself as a space in which companies can make their brands visible more quickly and, in this way, build consumer loyalty, said Francisco Carvajal, CEO of the Pacific cluster of Kantar IBOPE Media.

The impact of influencers on Peruvians

According to TGI, 43% of Peruvians say that advertising influences their purchasing decisions. Among the main topics that Peruvian influencers communicate through Instagram, gastronomy and restaurants stand out in first place with 32%, followed by music, concerts and singers with 25%.

On the other hand, 25% find interesting the contents related to news, politics or current affairs; 24% about travel and tourism and 22% of users are fond of sports videos.

Regarding the preference for international influencers, 28% of Peruvians enjoy seeing publications related to movies, series, filmography or actors, and 25% about singers and musical themes.

Peruvians' social network browsing habits

According to TGI, in the last 30 days, 81% of respondents accessed social networks. Also, 35% say they consume these digital platforms more than 10 times a day and 29% of respondents enter approximately 5 times in the same period. On the other hand, the study highlights that 26% of heavy users surf from Monday to Friday and 16% on weekends.

It is worth noting that 60% of Peruvians say they need to check social networks every day and 44% feel lost without their smartphone. Meanwhile, 69% consider the Internet to be their main source of entertainment and 83% use it to search for information.
