The Environmental Science and Engineering (EnSE) Program in the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at KAUST has established research strength in several areas to address the challenges of the 21st century. We educate and train students to work on the world’s most pressing challenges related to sustainability and the environment, focusing on the intersection of water, energy and food nexus and sustainable processes. To strengthen our environmental science and engineering research, we seek to expand research in the field of sustainability. Applications for faculty positions (Open Rank: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) are invited from outstanding candidates who are developing synthetic approaches, including Systems and Synthetic Biology, towards sustainability in areas related to water, energy, and food.  We particularly seek for candidates focusing on utilizing various waste streams to produce chemicals, fuels, and materials in living systems by integrating systems and synthetic biology approaches with machine learning or developing cutting–edge biotechnologies for nitrogen fixation.

Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in environmental microbiology or a related field and a strong publication record in the top-tier journals of their respective fields. The successful candidate is expected to establish top-notch research activities that contribute to the EnSE program research mission to promote sustainability and is encouraged to establish multi-disciplinary collaborations within the BESE Division and across Divisions and Initiatives at KAUST. Education responsibilities include teaching approximately two courses per academic year at the graduate level and student mentorship and supervision. The successful candidate is also expected to provide professional service at the Program, division, and university levels.
