UNBC student wins Women in Technology Scholarship

A University of Northern British Columbia Student (UNBC) is one of 11 recipients to be awarded the Women in Technology (WIT) Scholarship.

UNBC Environmental Engineering student Aur Hager was one of the recipients of the 2022 award.

The B.C gives the $10,000 scholarship. Scholarship Society is meant to invite women to become part of a community of women who inspire and support each other as they advance their technology-related studies and future careers.

“Receiving this award had an immense impact on my life and career goals,” said Natella Jafarova, a former WIT Scholarship recipient in a news release. “Partly because of the amazing opportunities associated with receiving a Women in Technology Scholarship. It has opened new doors for me.”

The Scholarships were presented at a ceremony held at the McMillan Space Centre in Vancouver on Friday, Nov. 4.

“These B.C. scholarships provide opportunities for women to pursue studies in technology, supporting them to become leaders and contributors in the sector, and adding to the richness of representation and diversity in the workplace,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

“Our government is proud to support funding for scholarships as we know they open doors for students by recognizing their talent, dedication, and pursuit of knowledge.”

The BC Scholarship Society offers scholarships and awards to B.C. students attending public post-secondary institutions. Since its founding in 2006, the Society has awarded more than $30 million in scholarships and awards to thousands of B.C. students.
