The Department of Ocean Science and Technology (OST) of the Faculty of Science and Technology invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in the discipline of Ocean Technology for the Centre for Regional Oceans (CRO).

The Department of Ocean Science and Technology (OST) offers quality postgraduate and PhD programmes. The emphasis of our programmes is directed to the areas of ocean environment and ecology, ocean circulation, coastal disasters, and ocean technology. Currently, OST has 11 academic staff. UM is among the top 1% in ESI (Essential Sciences Indicators) rankings in Engineering. The Engineering and Technology programme of UM is ranked in the 126– 150 bracket in THE World University Rankings 2022.

The Centre for Regional Oceans (CRO) is a research centre in the Faculty of Science and Technology with the purpose of advancing the ocean-related research of UM. In recent years, CRO has newly established 4 laboratories, namely Laboratory for Ocean Environmental Pollution Analysis and Assessment, Laboratory for Ocean Environmental Pollution Prevention and Remediation, Laboratory for Ocean Environmental Simulation and Modelling and Laboratory for Ocean and Atmospheric Research. CRO is expected to deliver impactful research in ocean technology.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Ocean Technology, Ocean Informatics, Ocean Data Science or related areas. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching experience at the tertiary education level. To accord future development, candidates specialising in ocean sensors, ocean information transmission and network, marine autonomous robotic systems, marine acoustics and ocean information system are preferred.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2023.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP828, 100 (approximately USD102, 230) will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
